Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested explaining to children why Russia is conducting the special military operation by using examples from wildlife to help them understand “what kind of world we live in.”
He made the remarks during a meeting with teachers in Moscow while speaking with Dmitry Balanchukov, a Chinese-language teacher from Belgorod Region.
Balanchukov said he had traveled to the North Pole and seen two polar bears during the trip. Putin asked whether he had seen the animals and then noted that orcas also live in the same area.
“Imagine, orcas live nearby. They eat these bears like little fish. They attack in groups and tear them apart. It’s all very interesting. Yes, this is such a food chain,” Putin said.
According to Putin, children should also be told about such examples. He said this could help them understand “what kind of world we live in and why we are conducting the special military operation.”
P.S. Do orcas really attack polar bears?
The claim is not supported by reliable scientific evidence. There is no established evidence that orcas regularly hunt polar bears or attack and kill them in groups. Orcas can prey on various marine mammals in Arctic waters, and their ranges may overlap with those of polar bears in some areas. However, an “orca–polar bear” food chain is not recognized as an established scientific fact.
