An explosion followed by a fire and partial structural collapse occurred on the morning of May 5 at the Kazzinc facility in Ust-Kamenogorsk.
According to the company, the incident took place during maintenance work on a smoke exhaust system, when a blast-like event triggered a fire.
Two people were killed and five others were injured. The injured are receiving medical assistance, while emergency services continue to work at the scene.
A special commission has been set up to investigate the incident. The exact causes and circumstances have not yet been established.
An environmental assessment is also underway. Preliminary data indicate a localized dust release that did not exceed permissible limits and did not involve hazardous substances.
Kazzinc stated that it will provide comprehensive support to the families of the victims and those injured, including financial and psychological assistance.
The incident has resulted in fatalities and renewed concerns over industrial safety, as the investigation into its causes continues.
