Kazakhstan officially declared winner of the VI World Nomad Games

Kazakhstan has taken first place in the overall medal standings at the VI World Nomad Games, which concluded in Kyrgyzstan on September 6.

The final standings were announced on September 7 by Askat Alagozov, press secretary to the President of Kyrgyzstan. According to him, the organizing committee decided to count the medals won by three Kazakh athletes separately, which changed the final team standings.

“Thus, Kazakhstan took first place in the overall team standings. We congratulate our Kazakh brothers on their victory,” Alagozov said.

He also praised the high standard of the Games and emphasized that the competitions were held in an atmosphere of mutual respect and fair rivalry.

Alagozov highlighted the kok-boru and zher-ulak competitions, where teams from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan demonstrated a high level of skill. According to him, the rivalry between the athletes remained strictly within the sporting arena, while no serious disagreements arose among supporters of the two countries.

The Kazakh national team won a total of 74 medals: 32 gold, 20 silver and 22 bronze.

Confusion over the final medal table emerged after the Games. In the initial standings published by the organizers, Kyrgyzstan led with 30 gold medals, while Kazakhstan was second with 29 gold medals and Russia was third with seven. The table was later removed.

After the figures were recalculated and the principles for determining the team standings were clarified, Kazakhstan was officially placed first.

Kyrgyz athletes also delivered a strong performance at the Games. Alagozov stressed that the main achievement was not only the medal tally, but also the opportunity to hold the competition in a spirit of friendship, mutual respect and fair sporting rivalry.
